Florida EV Charging Incentives, Rebates and Tax Credits

Incentives usually decide the size of a charging project, not whether it happens. Here is the funding stack available to Florida commercial and government properties and how the pieces fit together.

Start with the federal credit

The 30% Alternative Fuel Vehicle Refueling Property Credit is the anchor of nearly every commercial project. It applies to qualifying hardware and installation labor, caps at $100,000 per port, and requires the property to sit in an eligible census tract. Large portions of Florida qualify, but eligibility is address-specific — a property two blocks away may be treated differently.

Claiming the full 30% rate depends on meeting prevailing wage and apprenticeship requirements on the installation work. That is a reason to confirm your installer can document compliance before construction, not after.

Utility make-ready funding by territory

Florida's major utilities each run their own commercial charging programs, and terms differ meaningfully. FPL serves most of South Florida and large parts of the state. Duke Energy covers much of Central and North Florida. TECO serves the Tampa area, JEA serves Jacksonville, and OUC serves Orlando city territory. Municipal utilities and cooperatives such as LCEC and Talquin have their own rules.

Because programs open, cap out, and reset on their own calendars, we confirm current availability at the time of design rather than quoting a number from last year's program.

Public and corridor funding

Government and corridor sites can access NEVI and CFI funding administered through the state, plus state clean energy and fleet programs. These come with procurement requirements, BABA-compliant equipment rules, EVITP-certified installation, and post-award reporting. They are worth pursuing, but they are paperwork-heavy — the application is a project in itself.

Solar and storage change the math

When a project includes a solar carport or battery storage, additional federal energy credits may apply to those components. Storage also reduces demand charges on the operating side, which matters more than most owners expect at DC fast charging sites. Bundling the scope often produces a better net cost than adding solar later.

How we handle it

Incentive work is part of our scope, not an add-on. During the site assessment we check census tract eligibility, current utility program status, and any public funding the property qualifies for. We prepare and file the applications, document the installation to the standard each program requires, and handle post-installation reporting.

Common questions

What is the 30% federal EV charger tax credit?
The Alternative Fuel Vehicle Refueling Property Credit covers 30% of qualifying hardware and installation costs, up to $100,000 per charging port, for business property placed in service in an eligible census tract. Prevailing wage and apprenticeship requirements apply to claim the full rate.
Does Florida have a state EV charging rebate?
Florida does not run a broad statewide commercial charging rebate. The meaningful funding comes from the federal credit, utility make-ready programs, and federal corridor programs like NEVI and CFI administered through the state.
What does a utility make-ready program cover?
Make-ready funding covers the electrical infrastructure that gets power to the charger: transformers, service, conduit, and sometimes trenching. Coverage and caps vary by utility and by customer class, and programs open and close on their own schedules.
Can a hotel or apartment building qualify?
Yes. Commercial and multifamily properties both qualify for the federal credit when the property is in an eligible tract, and multifamily is a priority category for several utility make-ready programs.
Do you file the paperwork?
Yes. We identify every program the site qualifies for, prepare the applications and supporting documentation, and file on your behalf, including post-installation reporting for public programs.
